MAIL CALL

from Debbie Borres Desmond in Nederland
(taken off of Facebook)

Adventures on our cruise!  We got stuck on an elevator for three hours after we got on the ship.  We were stuck between floors.  When the doors opened and I saw all metal, I really started to panic.  They got us almost three feet from the deck.  I had to have help from another passenger and I jarred my back.  I was uncomfortable the rest of the trip.  We got in another one on the side later and the door kept closing and opening several times.  I said I am getting off!  I'm not getting stuck again.  It doesn't help that I suffer from claustrophobia!

Also, while cruising in the middle of the Gulf the ship had to stop for three hours.  A flat bottom boat about twenty feet long was floating with no one in it.  They tied the boat up to the ship and checked on the boat.  They found two cell phones, wallets with money in it and also clothes.  It had Florida tags.  The Coast Guard found the owner in Meridia, Florida, alive and well.  The boat had gotten away from them two months ago!!!  What are the odds on that?

from Loretta LaLonde Myers in League City, TX

Our youngest daughter, her husband and their two children moved in with us at the beginning of October.  It's a little crowded at our house right now!  They sold their home of eight years and are having another one built.

In the middle of October, Glynn and I had lunch with Mike Hebert (TJ'66) and his wife, Sharon.  They have been visiting in San Leon from Allen, TX.  Mike and I had not seen each other in over forty four years!!!  We had a great time catching up.

HURRICANE SANDY

from Bruce Meyer in Crawford, NJ

Thanks for checking on us.  We used a generator for a week until power was restored but other than minor inconveniences, we are okay.

from Linda James Louvier in Palmerton, PA

We were lucky.  We didn't lose our power and had no damage.  There are quite a few in town that still don't have power.  We were in a city over from us and they are still without power.  New York and New Jersey are really hurting and need all the prayers, too.  Many of the people that had moved here had no idea about hurricanes.  Sadly, they learned the hard way.  Thanks for keeping up with us.

45th REUNION

I heard from a couple of you that wanted to be added to the RSVP “hopeful” list.  I would love to hear from all of you that normally come and haven't taken the time to tell me that you “can't wait to do it again!”  The committee always works extra hard to make our gatherings really special.  We also have been told that our decorations are above and beyond any other classes ANYWHERE!!!  Well, we'll take that compliment.  More news will be forth coming when more decisions are made.  We are finishing up the spreadsheet information trying to make it as current as we can.  I'll tell you in advance when any mail goes out so that you can be looking for it.  If you don't receive it, there might be a problem with the info that didn't get turned in.

Reminder to save the date:

45th Reunion

Aug. 2-4, 2013

Hope to see you there!

NEWS FROM THE HOMEFRONT

My dad had a TIA last week.  He recovered quickly.  Thank you, GOD.  My sister's depression has been improving.  Whew!!!  Her dementia, of course, doesn't improve.  But, when she isn't as stressed and depressed, she seems to have it together a little better.  Murphy's a little disappointed at the deer lease.  He hasn't had any luck killing a deer but has had a good time with the male bonding that seems to go on at the lease!! He tells me every night what the “chef” of the lease is cooking up for their supper!  They also like to sit around the fire now that the weather has gotten cooler. He is happy because he ordered a new IPHONE for an early Christmas present.  We are just waiting for it to come in.  I ordered FOR ME a couple of items off of the MLB network.  Just a couple of Derek Jeter NY Yankees memorabilia to put in my computer/baseball room.  I already got in a Boston Red Sox wreath to hang on the door to the room and a Red Sox stocking to put by my SPORTS tree that I put up on my filing cabinet.  Gotta make Momma happy!   Those will be my early Christmas presents and I will get what I WANT!!!!  The granddaughters are both in soccer tournaments this weekend and the oldest also has a “mini” piano recital.

My daughter is the race director of the TURKEY TROT being sponsored by the Sea Rim Striders race club and Triangle Theraputics.  It is to be held Thursday, November 22 in downtown Beaumont.  She has worked tirelessly for the past several months on all of the logistics that will make this event run JUST RIGHT.  I am proud of my “shy” girl who has been a bulldog and know that it will be worth all the hours spent volunteering to get it done!  Of course, she is an accountant by trade and we know it is going to be perfect!

I had a nice “girl” visit with Diane Richmond Miller this last week.  We had lunch and came back here to enjoy some dessert and liquid libations! We were joined by neighbor and '69 classmate, Joanna Simmons Moreau.  We spent the afternoon laughing and reminiscing.  I visited with Joe Breaux ('69) at his father's 90th birthday celebration.  They don't make them any better than Mr. Breaux.  Such a kind gentleman.  Actually, he must have been a wonderful role model all these years because Joe has those same qualities!!!! Ernie Castaneda Bullion dropped by today to give Dad his B-12 shot.  She does this out of the kindness of her heart.  Anyone who knows her knows that she is the BEST!  I had a nice chat with Becky Bivens Clarke this week.  She returned my call to update her address for my spreadsheet.  She had the entire first floor of her home flooded during Hurricane Ike.  She lived in the same neighborhood as Roy Dale Birklebach in Hitchcock, TX.  She and her husband decided to move up the road to Friendswood.  I have not talked to Becky in years.  It was fun catching up.  Thanks for returning my call, Becky.  She had not been getting our website news  because she forgot to update her e-mail address when she changed servers.  We got that corrected now!  Yeah.

SUPPORT

(a note from Sheridan Jones Thornell)

I would like to ask ALL my friends when you say your Prayers, either it be day or night, throw the name SAM in there. That is my 90 year old father that is in really good health......but his whole life is changing due to Macular Degeneration with his eye sight. Because of this disease, he is giving up so many things that now he can not do. I am one that knows Prayers are Almighty and Powerful. Thanks....

Please add my brother, Wilson Yancey, Jr. back to the list for prayers.  He is not out of the woods and I do not want to see the prayers stop because they have been so helpful.

Thanks.

from Richard Daniels

I just wanted to let you know that my mom passed away on Saturday, October 20th. She was a strong lady, but very, very  tired. It’s comforting to know that she no longer has to struggle.

died from complications from cancer

(obituary on front page of the website under OBITUARIES)

The Dallas Cowboys won, (woo hoo), even though it wasn't pretty!  The Houston Texans are on a roll, too.  The weather is cooling off, Thanksgiving is around the corner, and that means Christmas Carols can officially be played on Friday, November 23rd around here.  The first album (CD) I traditionally put on is my Kenny Rogers/Dolly Parton Christmas Album!

Until we meet again......
