It has been a month since I have had a NEWSLETTER published.  I guess  everyone has been too busy to send me news.  Both of my MAIL CALL entries were “stolen” off of FACEBOOK!  That means no one sent me messages except for the SUPPORT and CONDOLENCE lists.

NEWS FROM THE HOMEFRONT

Well, Murphy and I decided to “run away” for awhile and we booked a Hawaiian vacation for an early 40th anniversary present.  We left on Thursday, Jan. 10 and returned on Sunday, Jan. 20.  It was a welcome retreat and get-away.  We flew from Houston, spent two nights in Honolulu and then boarded a cruise ship for 7 days.  Upon return, we had an 8 hour bus tour of the island and then returned  to Houston.  The islands are so plush and the weather was, of course, excellent!  We hear we missed a cold, wet week in SE Texas.   (Murphy just came in and asked if I told you how “good” he was on vacation!  Yes, he was “good”!  He didn't complain not ONE TIME.  We are now looking forward to our annual classmates get-together weekend with the five couples in ROCK PORT, TX in the middle of February.

SUPPORT

Tonna Cooksey Bouillion in Leander has had a case of the shingles since Thanksgiving!

(a note from Ruelle Parker)

On Oct. 29th, my wife, Lana (Arpin), discovered she had breast cancer.  She is scheduled for 6 months of chemo, then surgery, then radiation, then re-construction.  She had her first treatment Dec. 31st.  She caught it early and the drs at MD Anderson feel that everything will work out okay.

Sandra Nicks Kelley's husband, Steve, had to return to the hospital because of still more health issues.  He is now recovering at home.

CONDOLENCES

(a note from Hal Ross)

Do you know anything about the life of our classmate, Narrie Travis, who recently passed away?  We were classmates at Sam Houston and lived close to each other when we were growing up.  Like all too many kids I grew up with, I lost track of him after high school.

(Can anyone help Hal out?  The last I knew was that he lived in Doucette, TX.)

(another note from Hal Ross)

I'm sure you know by now that Mr. George Huber, Pete's dad, passed away on Christmas Day.  He was one of my mentors and I owe a lot to him.  I still have the picture of him handing me my diploma on graduation night.  His words of wisdom have followed me throughout my life.

That wraps it up for this edition.  Please look carefully at the REUNION news for the latest information.  Also, I can't make up news or happenings.  Let me hear from you.  I know you MUST be over the holidays by now! I hope that the flu forgets to visit your home!
