MAIL CALL
from Clyde McManus in Spring Branch, TX
Just wanted to drop a short note to say the website is great. I enjoy the
memories it brings back. My wife, Maxine from the Bishop Byrne class of '69, and I are retired and moved to the Hill Country from the Dallas area in 2012.
(No wonder we couldn't find you! Enjoy. Murphy will be jealous. He loves the Hill Country).

I just would like for everyone to remember First Baptist Church Port Arthur!! It is with a heavy heart that I feel now!! It will be being torn down down in a few weeks to make room for a mega HEB!! Steve was raised there and when we started dating I went there!! For a year or two we left but until 1985 it was our church home!! The church body was made up of wonderful men and women that we loved dearly!! The few remaining members will be meeting at Proctor Baptist till they find a new home!! Thank you to all the wonderful members past and present that made us what we are today!!
REUNION PHOTOS
I have sent another 40 or so photos from the Saturday Mardi Gras event of our 45th REUNION. We had so much fun. If you are unsure of how to view the photos, contact me or Mike Lawson. We will walk you through. We aim to please. We don't want to do all this work without you being able to enjoy it.
MEMORIAL SERVICE for ROBERT McCLINTOCK
It has been a couple of weeks since Robert has passed away and a few classmates have asked me to post a reminder of his upcoming MEMORIAL service:
MEMORIAL SERVICE
for Robert McClintock
2-4 pm
Saturday, January 25, 2014
Grammier Oberle Funeral Home
2:00 Memorial Service followed by visitation until 4:00 pm
Afterwards, guests are invited to a reception at
Immaculate Conception Catholic Fellowship Hall in Groves
(I will not be able to attend the MEMORIAL due to my brother's daughter's wedding. It is scheduled at 3:00 pm in Houston. I am sorry I have to miss it. Robert made a wonderful impact in this world. I have never heard anything negative about him. He was such a kindhearted fellow and I am proud to say I knew him. We were born a day apart and his mom and mine were in the hospital together. So, I guess you can say I probably “knew” him longer than most everyone else in our class! Love you sweetie and will remember you always!)
MEMORIAL section
After several inquiries about how to find Robert McClintock's obituary on the website, I thought I might give you a short tutorial.
TO FIND OUR CLASSMATE MEMORIAL SECTION:
Look at the top of the website HOME PAGE,
click on MEMORIALS
point cursor on MEMORIAL INDEX (this is where some of you are skipping)
a dropdown box of alphabet letter selections will appear
click on the alphabet letters that include the last name of the classmate for whom you are looking
OTHER FEATURES in the MEMORIAL section include:
clicking on the classmate's NAME that is in CAPITAL LETTERS will bring up their photo from the Thomas Jefferson annual
some classmates also have a more recent photo that we were able to add to the
classmate's obituary
The OBITUARY section on our website is NOT for our classmates. It includes family obituaries, obituaries of local “celebrities”, and fellow classmates from the class of '66, '67, 69, and '70 who have passed away and I have been notified.
(Now that I have explained the procedure to make it a little easier, you have a perfect opportunity to view OTHER classmates besides Robert's obit.)
NEWS FROM THE HOMEFRONT
We had a great visit this week from a '66 classmate, Jud Hollingsworth. Jud lives in Lake City, CO and was in Texas visiting with as many of his family members as possible. Murphy worked with Jud at the Texaco and has remained good friends. Jud's family and Kent and Jane (Lippincott) Koerth spent the day here in Lumberton. It was a very nice visit with friends.
Dad and I took a “road trip” a week ago. Even though he is 97, Dad was having enough issues that a colonoscopy was warranted. Murphy said, “NO WAY in our house” to Dad's prep! So, Dad and I booked ourselves a room at the Hampton Inn and Suites in PA and did what was NECESSARY! We checked out the following morning and headed to St. Mary Hospital and the procedure was performed with wonderful results. Dad was pronounced WAY HEALTHIER than anyone would expect someone his age to be! The doctor was smiling ear to ear. Okay, the results were awesome, but then SUPPOSITORIES were prescribed. Guess who said, “NO WAY” again? Yep! Murphy. So this daughter has another job to perform twice a day. Thank heavens Dad doesn't remember it each time, but I SURE DO! Yuk.

UPDATE:
Debbie Thompson Saide is out of ICU and off of the ventilator. She is recovering from a brain aneurism that happened a couple of days after Christmas. Please continue to pray for her as she is still in grave condition even though she is improving. She needs our heartfelt prayers. You may leave a message on her FB page under:
Debbie Thompson Saide
(a message about Debbie from Lana Oliver Baker)
Asking for prayers for a childhood friend, who I have reunited with in 2013. Her name is Debbie Thompson Saide. She has had a rough life growing up. When we were in junior high her little brother was run over by a garbage truck. It was a very difficult time for her and her family. It seems as she got older her life only got harder and she made a lot of bad decisions, but thanks be to God, she turned all of that around when she found Jesus.
I thought this was strange when I saw all this stuff about Pit Bulls on her Facebook pages, but then I got to thinking about it:
Debbie has a great passion for saving or rescuing "pit bulls". Perhaps she chose this animal, one that a lot of us look at and want nothing to do with, because maybe she could relate to them from her past life. I bet there were times in her life that she felt the same way, troubled, or unloved. She probably just decided that she would give them the love that God had given her in her time of need.
Her condition is grave, but God still performs miracles. So please pray fir her and her husband who has been fighting cancer himself. Love to all of you. Without our health and a God, there isn't anything else we need.
(another message about Debbie from Sheridan Jones Thornell)
Debbie and I were best friends all through Woodrow and I just found her in 2013. My heart is so broken. She is in Hermann Hospital in Houston. She had brain surgery. So I ask all of you again to pray for our friend Debbie, and if you don't know her, pray any way. Her husband is fighting throat cancer himself. God Bless you all and try to do a good deed for someone today.

I fell New Year's Eve and dislocated my right hip. They did not have to cut me. They were able to put it back in socket. But, I am still bedridden except for minor stuff like bathroom visits. I am hoping for a speedy recovery. My year literally started with a bang.
Fred Schneider '66 (brother of the late Randy Schneider)
Fred was planning on having a knee replacement on New Year's Eve and ended up having open heart surgery with 4 bypasses instead!

RIP Robert. Thanks for the good memories from Sam Houston Elementary to Thomas Jefferson HS to recent years. And thanks for your gentle, kind words upon my Mom's death - very comforting. ------ To Robert's friends and family.... Robert, Johnny Montagne and I were best, best friends at good ole Sam Houston Elem. We called ourselves the Three Stooges. Robert (you guessed it) was Curly, Johnny was Moe and I was Larry. Fun memories of an old friend! -----
(a note from classmate, Sandy Ellis MacNamera)
Even knowing how sick and in pain Robert was, I am still broken hearted about his death. Robert was one of the greats - a true gentleman. Robert had a gift - he genuinely loved people. He will always live in my heart.
(a note from classmate, Ruelle Parker)
I deeply regret that I will not be able to attend Robert's memorial. I have to go to Austin for a meeting. I can't remember not knowing Robert as we were friends for so long.

(a note from Hugh LeBaron)
I returned to Jefferson County twice in October and November. My first trip was to say goodbye to my brother Jack LeBaron who lived in Nederland. He was diagnosed with terminal liver cancer and lived only three weeks after my visit dying on November 3, 2013. He was laid to rest near our father (who was also named Jack LeBaron) and my uncle Billy Howard in Port Neches. It was all massively sad and we continue to grieve our loss. Jack and I were nearly the same age, our births being only one year and eleven days apart. While I still have nephews and cousins in east Texas, my circle of relatives in that place has shrunk in the last decade. Your prayers for Jack's children, grandchildren and widow are appreciated.
