I just got back from my semi annual fishing trip to Northern Minnesota with my Chicago fishing buddies. The weather was mixed, but managed to catch plenty of northern pike, walleye, and lots of smallmouth bass. I got the trophy this year for the largest bass. Every trip the boys insist that I cook gumbo, I think that's the only reason I get invited. I am looking forward to doing it again in September when the largemouth bass come out to play.
My wife, Patti and daughter Christina are doing well. Patti is still doing her thing with QVC and Christina is enjoying her freshman year in high school. She got promoted to varsity soccer and went to sectionals for golf. I never thought a nerd like me would produce a jock !!
The grandkids are doing well. The oldest one graduated from PN-G last week. I'm hoping to make the Port Neches/Lumberton trip later this summer to see them and get my stash of boudain for the freezer. I can't get it up here.
Well, its time to get out to the garden and hoe the weeds. I can't wait to start pickin' fresh veggies.

My husband, Jim wants Marvin Reeves to sign me up for Carole's (Oubre)
weedeater class. I, however am not interested. The Keechi creek on our
property is over it's 30 foot banks but still not close to the house. It
is raging. It normally looks like a river but it is now very daunting. My
organic garden is doing great and so are the chickens, longhorns and ducks.
Who would have guessed I would turn into “Farmer Pam”. I trade eggs for Paul
Coletti's olive oil at the olive oil store in Fort Worth. That's right. It
is a store with ONLY olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Paul's olive oil is a
gold medal winner. He goes to Italy every year to oversee it's making. If
you haven't tried it you should. Love to all of you!

(Paul's Extra Virgin Olive Oil is called FRATELLI COLLETTI. This oil is a single varietal, made only from Buscionetta olives the Biancolilla di Caltabellotta-grown, harvested and pressed in Caltabellotta, Sicily.)
RETIREMENTS
from Charlie Fontenot in League City
One hour and thirty minutes left in the work force! I'm calling it a “Done Deal “! I've been through many ups and downs, two kids, two weddings, two college graduations, and too many blessings to count! I could have never done it without the support of my wonderful wife and wonderful daughters! I am looking forward to great times with all of my friends!

It was a very emotional day at school today. It hit me that this is my last week of teaching. I've been excited all year about the new chapter of my life (and I'm still excited) but today the sadness hit me. Counting 43 years of teaching, 4 years of college undergraduate, 12 years of school, 1 year of kindergarten and 1 year of Pre-K, I've been in school 61 years! I was emotional with anxiety all day. It didn't help that I was showing "Homeward Bound" to my classes; a very tender movie about the love of pets. But, don't worry - it was educational. I taught the kids where the Sierra Nevada Mountains are! I'm feeling better this evening. Transitions are hard, even when they're good.
P.S. Don't be surprised if in August you see me lurking around the school supply isles in Wal Mart!

NEWS FROM THE HOMEFRONT
Dad is still doing well, Gerry is doing better, and the summer has us hopping! We usually do most of the chauffeuring of the granddaughters to their scheduled summer activities.
Example:
Tuesday, 8:00 am
Both granddaughters and two extras show up
Feed the girls that are still hungry
Murphy takes the 3 older girls to Lumberton volleyball camp (9-12 noon)
I take the younger granddaughter to Beaumont to Parisi (agility/speed) class
for an hour.
I leave during that time and go to Beaumont grocery store.
Go back and pick up granddaughter and go to Party City.
Head back to Lumberton in time to cook something for them for lunch.
Murphy goes back and picks up the older girls at volleyball class and takes the two friends back home to Beaumont and then drops off our two granddaughters at their home in Lumberton by 1:15pm.
In the meantime, I leave and go to Bridge City for a dental appointment at 1:00 and then drop off a book at Shelley Dettman's in Nederland.
Afterwards, I go by my Dad's assisted living in Nederland and visit him for awhile.
Now, I leave and get stuck in construction traffic in Beaumont.
Back at home by 4:30 and Murphy says with a grin, “What's for supper?”!!!!!
Maybe there is a ballgame on the tv I can watch and relax!!!
USA, USA, USA
Be sure to cheer for the Women's USA soccer team on Sunday! They are playing in the FINALS. My granddaughters and some of their soccer mates and families have been having viewing parties. Here is our daughter and youngest granddaughter all dressed up for the cheering section.

CONSIDER THIS:
|
~Your kids are becoming you......but your grandchildren are perfect!
|
~Going out is good.. Coming home is better!
|
~You forget names.... But it's OK because some people forgot they even knew you!!!
|
~You realize you're never going to be really good at anything like golf.
|
~The things you used to care to do, you aren't as interested in anymore, but you really don't care that you aren't as interested.
|
~You sleep better on a lounge chair with the TV 'ON' than in bed. It's called "pre-sleep".
|
~You miss the days when everything worked with just an "ON" and "OFF" switch..
|
~You tend to use more 4 letter words ... "what?"..."when?"... ???
|
~You notice everything they sell in stores is "sleeveless"?!!!
|
~What used to be freckles are now liver spots.
|
~Everybody whispers.
|
~You have 3 sizes of clothes in your closet.... 2 of which you will never wear.
|
|
~~~But Old is good in some things: Old Songs, Old movies, and best of all, OLD FRIENDS!!
|
|
|
Stay well, "OLD FRIEND!" Remember, It's Not What You Gather, But What You Scatter That Tells What Kind Of Life You Have Lived.
|
|
|
TODAY IS THE OLDEST YOU'VE EVER BEEN; YET THE YOUNGEST YOU'LL EVER BE, SO ENJOY THIS DAY WHILE IT LASTS
I had my yearly checkup at MD ANDERSON this week and had a great report. Then, yesterday, I fell on the bathroom tile floor and landed mostly on my elbow. So, I just returned from the ER where they took x-rays. Thankfully, it was just a bad contusion and no broken bones. This was the same arm that I broke my wrist three years ago. Happily, I don't have to spend my summer in a cast!
We just left the doctors office and the referrals are starting. My son, James asked that I update everyone because this is pretty overwhelming and confusing. The mass on his liver showed up on a ct scan as probable metastatic neoplasm, and we are hoping it is a benign tumor. The next step is a biopsy to find out for sure. We've contacted MD Anderson and the Cancer Center of SETX to get the quickest diagnosis/treatment plan started but most likely will end up at MD Anderson if the results show cancer. Keep him in your prayers and ask God to give us benign results.
June 15
Today at MDAnderson, the doctor said that there are lots of people that come with similar spots on their liver as James's CT scan showed that are not cancer which gave us so much hope! He had blood work drawn today and another CT scan specifically for the liver on Thursday. If anything is questionable from those, the next step is a biopsy. I think the prayers you all are praying gave us the news suggesting hope that is was just a scare. Keep them coming until we know for sure.
(note from James on June 15)
Thank you to everyone for the prayers. I will know more Thursday from my results of test taken today and CT scan that will be done Thursday. If necessary, we will set an appointment for a biopsy. Thank you Debi Pigg (mom) and Chelsea Flitcraft (sister) for being there by my side! Love to all and please
continue keeping me in your prayers.
