I just returned from another great cruise with Oceania Cruises. The ship departed from Copenhagen and finished in Stockholm. Excursions along the way and other cities visited include Berlin, Klaipeda(Lithuania), Riga(Latvia), Helsinki(Finland), St.Petersburg(Russia), and Tallin(Estonia) before arrival in Stockholm and disembarking for the return trip home. The highlight of the cruise for me was when the ship docked in St. Petersburg we had three days/and two nights there. I especially enjoyed a tour of the Hermitage with its fantastic art collection. and beautiful cathedrals throughout the city. St.Petersburg had been the capitol of Russia and home to the Czars from the early 1700s, until 1917 when the Bolshevik Revolution occurred and Lenin came to power. The capitol was moved to Moscow and St.Petersburg was renamed to Leningrad.. I had a wonderful time and would consider going back again.

I want to thank everyone for wishing me a happy birthday. We're in Vegas with grandson Trent for an Adidas basketball tournament. Would you believe they won the tournament? I played tennis with Andre Agassi & we ate lunch at Wayne Newton's house. (Ha Ha).  We went to the pool but my flip flops melted before I got to the water & we don't gamble. We did see O last night. FYI, don't come to Vegas in July. Too hot.

My dad is one of the 100+ year old parents from our class.  He turned 100 on March 18th.  He is in an assisted living facility now.

They held their 50th reunion July 14-16.  Many showed up that haven't attended other reunions.  My husband, Murphy McFadden, graduated that year and I always attend.  I saw lots of happy faces and reconnected to many that I knew  in Lakeview and remembered from school over the years. Gene Christian was the head of the event.  Kudos for the great job the committee members did and all the work that it entails to put on such a event.

NEWS FROM THE HOMEFRONT

Dad is doing well hitting the 101 yrs 1/3 month mark in July. He hasn't pulled any silly stunts lately like bailing out over the bedrails.  Thank heavens.  I took him riding all over last week and he seemed to enjoy it.  I brought him by PN Park and we watched the tug boats, went by the graveyard, drove through the old neighborhood in Lakeview, passed St. Joseph's church where he is a charter member since 1950 (?), and other sights.  We never got out anywhere because  with my back I don't pick him up to put him in the wheelchair.  When I brought him back to Holland Place the helper asked me where we went.  When I was telling her we noticed tears coming down his cheeks.  My dad doesn't cry!  Obviously, I left heartbroken.

Murphy and I celebrated our 44th anniversary on July 28.  We took a short drive to the Golden Nuggent Casino in Lake Charles.  Murphy doesn't gamble because “he works too hard for his $ to give it away”.  So, we just wanted to do something different since we hadn't been there.  We did let loose with $50.00 playing the penny slots and all of it was gone except 10 cents.  We couldn't find a machine to use it in so we saved the ticket for an anniversary souvenir!

My sister is going to turn 76 years old on August 17.  I will meet her half way at a cafe for a luncheon celebration.  My niece will pick her up at her assisted living in Humble.

SUPPORT

from Charlie Fontenot

(an update on his triple heart bypass)

An update on ME!  First , I want to thank everyone for your prayers, thoughts and anything else that was sent to me and my family during our adventure.  It was quiet the surprise for us all, and something I could not have done without my wonderful wife, daughters, grandkids , and the rest of family and friends who supported us throughout the surgery and hospital stay . Thanks to those who have brought food, shopped, kept our dog, watered flowers, mowed grass, and all the things that need to be done when you are unable to do so. I still have the recovery-road to walk, but as they say “step by step”. So much else I could say, but I will just end in sending love, gratitude, and thanks to God for seeing us all through this so far.

I got my cast off last Tuesday. The nerves are still dead and my wrist is somewhat tender. My wrist "adam's apple" is gone on my right wrist. I hope it's still because it's swollen. We're waiting on insurance clearance to begin occupational therapy. Ray is still cooking, laundry, writing checks, etc. He's been wonderful. If my right arm was functional, I would even be glad to empty the dishwasher! Hoping for the best.

We are asking for prayers for our sweet granddaughter, Sydnee. She has Belle's Palsy again for the third time within a year. This time it is on the opposite side of her face. She had blood work this week and we haven't gotten back ALL the  results but what we have gotten back was normal. She goes Monday for an MRI at Texas Children's Hospital. Praying we can get answers soon.
