MAIL CALL
Well, I just thought it was spring!  It is brrrrr outside.  Drizzly rain with the temp in the fifties.  Maybe I'll go wrap up in a snuggie and read a good book when I am finished with the NEWSLETTER.

MAIL CALL
from Mike Soileau in Atlanta, TX
I really enjoyed Sandra Merrifield's letter in the last NEWSLETTER dated February 25th. I didn't know some of the history but the way she described the facts with the memories were very good.  I remember the Procter Street drag but it was changing to the Gulfway Drive drag when we were all starting to drive.  I also wanted to say thanks to you and Mike for doing a great job for our class.

FOUND TJ '68 CLASS RING
Well, after Mike Soileau mentioned that David Theriot MIGHT be the owner of this ring, our slueths, Fred McCarty and Loretta LaLonde's husband, Glynn Myers got right down to business trying to locate him. The initials in the ring, DJT, matched his name (David Joseph Theriot) on the birth certificate they located.   They both came up with an address in Austin  and a phone number.  The phone # is "no longer in service".  Fred also found him on Face Book.  I sent him a message on Feb. 25th telling him to contact me.  No response yet.  Maybe some of our Austinites can check out his address on 85 Trinity Street.  I would love to return the ring to him IF we could connect somehow.  Thanks Mike Soileau, Fred and Glynn.

NEWS FROM THE HOMEFRONT
Not much is going on here (thank you JESUS)!  My sister seems to be having more good days lately than bad days.  I talk to her at least once a day and spend Wednesdays with her.  Since she no longer drives, I take her on errands and we try to visit friends, visit museums, go to a movie, etc.  She really looks forward to Wednesdays.  So do I.  I went to the Lutcher Theatre in Orange this week to see THE BLUE MAN GROUP.  What a production!!!!  Don't miss it if it comes in your area.

Murphy has been biking or walking each morning since his heart stents last March.  He seems to be enjoying retirement MOST of the time.  He does help me with the housework since I seem to be on the road a lot with Dad or my sister.  He is enjoying his new purple martin house that he put up a week ago.  He ordered it a month ago but with the SNAFUs that seems to follow "Murphy's Law" around here, it didn't get put up until last week.  He enjoyed visting with '66 grad, Jud Hollingsworth who came in from Lake City, CO to enjoy his FIRST Mardi Gras in PA!!!  He was impressed.  His sister lives on the curvy part of Lakeshore Drive and he enjoyed seeing and hearing the festivities on the seawall while the floats were preparing  for the parades.

Lamar Men's basketball team is in the Southland Conference tournament in Katy this week doing great.  They are in the finals!!!  Also, Murphy and I bought season tickets to the Lamar Baseball games.  Some games have been rainy and cool and you also need a blanket to cover at least your legs.  Am I the only one who thinks BASEBALL season and FOOTBALL season should be switched?   It is hardly ever cold for a football game!!!!  I am sooooo excited that Major League baseball has begun (even if it is just spring triaining).  We like to follow the Boston Red Sox since Murphy's friend's son, Clay Buchholtz from Lumberton, is one of their ace pitchers. I am planning a short vacation to the Arlington area for the Texas Rangers/ Boston Red Sox series  July 23-25.  I can feel the heat and humidity right now in that open stadium in JULY!  Hey, I might see fellow classmate, Robert Sewell there!  I always read his FACE BOOK posts about the Rangers.  I also hope to see Lynn Eldridge and Terry Watson while there.  Lynn lives in Dallas and Terry lives in Richardson.

My best friend, Martha Lipe Bodin ('69), (married to classmate Carl Bodin), lost her mother a couple of weeks ago after a battle with pancreatic cancer.  She is the wife of former Robert E. Lee principal, Roy Lipe.  Mrs. Lipe was very involved with Girls Scouts.  Also, my neighbor and '69 graduate, Joanna Simmons, was diagnosed with breast cancer this week.  Contact me via e-mail if you have had breast cancer.  There are a couple of questions she has been wondering about.  I'll explain them to you personally.  She is scheduled for a needle biopsy and a visit with the surgeon at MD Anderson on March 15, so contact me before then.

a note from Jeanette Constantine Morgan
We are once again asking everyone to remember my sister, Ellen, who passed away three years ago by donating to the Ellen Pitts Scholarship Foundation.  Last year, with the help of many caring friends and strangers, the family collected enough money to give three $500.00 dollar scholarships to worthy students in her memory.  You may do so by sending your donation to:

Neches Federal Credit Union in Port Neches, TX

or:

Jeanette Constantine Morgan
3901 Hwy. 366
Groves, TX 77619

I will see that it gets where it needs to be.  My wish is that we get even more donations than last year so that we may help more students. Thanks.  Remember every little bit helps.

an update on Linda Yancey's brother, Wilson M. Yancey, Jr.
We have a praise.  The brain MRI came back free from cancer, thank you God!  The oncologist will start Wilson on a new pill on the market.  The cancer is genetic and is unrelated to smoking, which Wilson has never done.  He will take this pill twice a day and it has a success rate of 7 out of 12.  It may stop the cancer's growth, may shrink it; however, it does not eliminate it.  Doctors have only known about this type of cancer for about a year and a half.

Wilson will have monthly checkups.  In 6 months, they will run testing again and if the cancer growth has stopped they may at that time consider removing part of the lung.  If the pill does not work, then they will start chemo.  Wilson said the doctor seemed pleased to have this pill available for him but of course, there is no guarantee.  There are a lot of side effects.

We love of our Lord and Savior and hold a strong in our faith and belief that He is a healing GOD.
