MAIL CALL

(Really strange.  The following note was written in July BEFORE the reunion but did not get to my e-mail until OCTOBER!)

(from Paula Iles Restrepo '69)

Just a quick note to tell you how much I enjoy reading about the Class of 68 still, and to compliment you and others who have put the reunion together. No, I'm not going to crash it, although I am sure I would be welcome. But certainly will enjoy seeing the photos afterwards. Who knows, maybe I'll come to the 50th. There are a few handfuls of mostly gals that I knew from either choir, Hussars or classes and a few guys. It's fun to see the cameraderie throughout the classmates when they write.

So, YA'LL have a great time, and I send my best wishes to you, Mike and anyone who would remember me.

REUNION PICS

I have sent Mike around 80 more photos in the last month from the photographer.  Please check them out.   Wayne Taylor has spent countless hours editing the photos to try to get the lighting just right.  He did this at no cost.  I do hope you take the time to check them out each time we have a class update.

Here is where to find them:

Find PHOTOS at the top of the website home page

Go to : (I have to use....STANDARD HTML instead of FLASH)

Find REUNION

Find 45th

ENJOY!!!!

Tell us what you think.  You may also drop a line to THANK Wayne Taylor for taking these photos for three days.

Contact him at:

witman101@hotmail.com

We still have the photos of the Saturday night bash and the breakfast to publish.  We do them in chunks.  We don't want to inundate you with the whole reunion all at one time.

If any of you have been “lazy” or forgetful and have photos you took that weekend, please send them to me and I will get them to Mike.

NEWS FROM THE HOME FRONT

Well, my BOSTON RED SOX won the WORLD SERIES!!!  It made all those late nights of watching the games all season worth it.  It is such a let-down to not have a game to look forward to now.  Only 5 months until Spring Training.

Murphy has been heading to the “beer lease” now that deer season is in full swing. (He got a 9 point buck opening weekend!)  He would prefer to go to West Texas to hunt but it is so far away.  He hunts in Wiergate which is only and hour and 10 minutes away from here.  It is past Newton and close to Burkeville.  All the other years I couldn't wait until he would leave because I had the days off to myself to do as I pleased, to watch as many Hallmark Christmas movies I wanted, dress when I felt like it, ate my meals if and when I pleased.  This year, not so much.  I have Dad now all the time and it is not as exciting of a deer season as usual.  Dad isn't any trouble, but it isn't the same as being by myself.  Good thing he doesn't care what I put on tv!  He just watches it along with me.  Also, I am glad that we haven't been sick with the allergies that I see many others with.  I'll keep my fingers crossed.  Murphy did get a shot for his infection but I guess that is to be expected spending so much time in the woods.

My sister has been doing very well.  We are going to spend Thanksgiving day with her in Spring at my niece's home.  She seems happy when we talk on the phone.  I appreciate all the support from the classmates who ask about her.

My granddaughters have soccer in Atascocita every weekend but Dad isn't able to stand the heat or cold sitting out on the fields.  So, Murphy tries to go with them and he texts me updates.  I miss seeing them, though.

Well, I had my throat surgery at Methodist on Oct. 21 and was on complete voice rest for 10 days.  I used note pads, eraseable boards, and sign language to communicate.  It wasn't so bad.  Dad doesn't talk much so that worked out well since he wasn't expecting me to carry on a conversation.  It was rough going throught the baseball playoffs and World Series not being able to yell or even cheer.  Ernie Castaneda and I communicated via TEXTS during all the games.  Thank heavens for technology.  Thanks for all the e-mails, texts, cards, etc checking on me.  It meant a lot.

SUPPORT

(a note from Charlie Fontenot)

Prayers are needed for our Little Man Ray, our less than two month old grandson for those who do not know who he is. Sorry for the lack of information at this time, but he and my daughter, Darci & husband Ian need your thoughts and prayers for tomorrow. Short version is this will be the first of a possible many procedures. Our prayers are that this procedure can cure/fix the problem and all would be fine. While doctors think this chance is slight, it is our hope and prayer that it works. Again, sorry for the short version but bring on the prayers. Love and Thanks to all !

Update: He had the procedure and all went well.  He is expected to have another procedure in three months.

(from Susan Reagle Duplant on Nov. 2, 2013)

For my friends that have been asking about my health. I went to the hematologist yesterday. My hemoglobins are up to 10.6. They are slowly getting to 12. The Doctor was pleased and I am pleased that after 10 months I can walk without the fear of passing out. I continue my predisone and go back next Friday, for another blood check. He said the tiredness is normal, until I get my numbers up and the difficult breathing is from high does of predisone. I am very thankful for my improvement. Thanks for all of your thoughts and prayers.

I am doing well. I am moving up the liver transplant list. At my last clinic visit the doctor said I should have the transplant within the next six months, the nurse said maybe by Christmas. They also said leaving Houston would not be a good idea! I keep my cell phone with me at all times.

OBITUARIES

None, thank heavens!

We had a classmate death (Jerry Nicholson) the week of the reunion which was in the summer.  Since then we have lost THREE!!!! more classmates, Joe Pinell, Clarence Bertrand and Dwight Larson.  Please contact your friends from childhood and reminisce.  You might not be able to if you keep putting it off.

( Just remembering......

The last three deaths of classmates, Joe, Clarence, and Dwight, were all from Lakeview.  We grew up together.  Dwight's passing hit me really hard!  Dwight and I were in the same class at Travis Elementary from Kindergarten through 6th grade.  We lived two blocks apart on 8th Street.  He was my “boyfriend” in almost every grade!  His parents were wonderful and so kind and fun to be around.  He always had pets, even a small (tiny, tiny alligator).  Don't ask me where it came from.  His brother, Lenny ('66), was also usually hanging around.  Lenny is married to our classmate, Jo Ann Duplant.  Dwight also had an older sister, Pam whom I just found out recently died from brain cancer.

Dwight and I and others carpooled to Woodrow together and went to Tri-High Y functions as well as junior high socials and classes.  We hung out at gatherings at Methodist Temple when they had guests.  We spent time at TJ together and then still managed to see each other on and off during college years.  He was the photographer for the PA NEWS for quite some time.   His parents would run into my parents over the years and reminisce of the old days.  Dwight eventually moved to Chriesman, TX and became the mail carrier/postmaster in the little community.  I would call him every five years to try to get him to come to the reunions.  He would giggle like always but never commit.  We talked quite a spell at his father's funeral visitation a few years back.  That was the last time we visited.  He hadn't changed a bit.  He was always smiling!  What wonderful memories I have of my special friend!  I miss you friend.  RIP
