Well friends, it is that time of the year when
everyone seems to be running around like chickens with their heads cut off.
Stop for a few minutes and relax. I know that your mind is on a hundred
things (okay, I am really just referring to the female classmates) and this month
just seems to go by too fast. So, Mike and I are giving everyone a break
about sending us your NEWS (at least until January). I hope that maybe you
might want to learn a little about those two names that keep
popping up on your e-mail! This UPDATE will be very brief and
to the point.
MAIL CALL
from Linda DeCuir McFadden: (UPDATE
editor and "boss" of Mike....just ask him!)
It all started on May 5, 1950 when I was born.
Mike Lawson (May 4), me (May 5), and Robert McClintock and Barry Boudreaux (May
6) were all in the nursery at the same time at Saint Mary's Hospital. As
the story goes, there were two to three mothers to a room at the time. So,
I figure that I saw these guys NAKED before any of their wives ever did.
Janice Hebert Boudreaux doesn't like to think about that~!~*JUST KIDDIN'*. So,
here goes my story. I graduated from Lamar University in 1972 and
married a TJ '67 graduate, Murphy McFadden, and have lived in Bridge City
since 1978. We have one daughter, Stacy, and her husband, Brad, who are
proud Texas A&M graduates. They are both accountants. We
have two beautiful granddaughters, Bailey (3 3/4 yrs old) and Drew (2 yrs
old). They recently moved from Beaumont to 7 acres in Lumberton. Someday,
when we aren't so busy, we are going to just go sit out on the land and fish in
their pond, listen to the frogs, watch the birds, and just RELAX. Murphy has
worked for a pipeline (TEPPCO) between Nederland and Beaumont for 22 years
after leaving Texaco in 1984 due to the BIG LAYOFF. I'm sure that effected
lots of our fellow classmates. I taught 27 years in the first
grade with the West Orange-Cove CISD and retired early in 1999. I spend my
"free" time with my elderly parents (91 and 84) who still live in
Lakeview. I also help with Murphy's mom in Pear Ridge, who is a
shut-in. I try to spend the weekends with the granddaughters. We also have
a white toy poodle named Millie, (she was born during the Milliennium),.who
pretty much just sleeps and eats and looks pretty. She is our third poodle
over the 33 years of our marriage. Murphy and I do enjoy traveling and try
to take at least one long vacation each year and a few short, short ones along
the way. I enjoy getting to visit with my older sister, Gerry (TJ
class of '59) and her husband who lives around the corner from me. My
brother Danny "Boy" (TJ class of '64) and wife and his grown
family live in Friendswood. My very favorite pasttime, though,
is working on the communication that I get from all of my classmates.
It is the greatest non-paying job on earth!!! Thanks for being you and I
hope that you continue to enjoy the website as much as I do. Love to you
all.
from Mike Lawson: (webmaster and
fellow classmate)
I, like everyone else, enjoy reading those UPDATES,
and am glad the "boss" talked me into sending this.
When I'm not working the website, Meredith and I try to find ways to relax as
much as possible. We live 5 miles outside of West Columbia on HWY 35 in a
gated community called Columbia Lakes. We both work for ConocoPhillips at
the Sweeny, TX Refinery. Meredith has been with them for 19 years, working
with OSHA related matters in the safety group. I've been there for 21
years, in the Design group doing engineering projects. I first began my
career in 1972 with Texaco immediately after graduation from Lamar, and stayed
14 years. I have 2 boys, 2 girls, 1 son-in-law and 1 daughter-in-law.
The oldest girl, Mary Ann, along with her husband Jon, are teachers in the
Conroe/Woodlands school districts. Our daughter-in-law, Jennie, teaches in
Baytown. The oldest son, Michael, manages a Walgreens in the Baytown area.
Our youngest daughter, Becky, is working for the State of Texas. Jamie is
the youngest. He is in his first year of law school at the University of
Michigan. There are three grandkids: Lauren is 13, Abe is 9, and
Addison is 1 year old. She just celebrated her first birthday.
I would like to wish everyone a wonderful holiday
and a Happy New Year.

That is it, folks. I hope that you remember
that this is the time for GIVING.....give of yourself, help someone less
fortunate, contact a long-lost friend, classmate, or relative, forgive
someone before it is too late, and don't forget the REASON
FOR THE SEASON!!
Drive Safe and Stay in touch,
Linda
