My family is getting ready for the big one. My mother, Marion Hyland Dorr, is getting ready to celebrate her 100th birthday on May 27th. She is an amazing woman.  God bless her!

from Cynthia Marshall Devlin in Zavalla, TX

(May 6)

Thank you for all that you do to help us stay connected. Another semester wraps up this coming Friday when I give my last final. We are headed to Great Falls, Montana in June for the 25th annual Lewis and Clark Festival. It will be a road trip and we are looking forward to stopping when we see something of interest. Life is good and presently everyone in my family is doing well. I am counting my blessings!

NEWS FROM THE HOMEFRONT

There isn't too much EXCITING news over here.  We had a wonderful Mother's Day spending it outside in Orangefield at my daughter's in-laws home.  Her yard is a sight to behold. Potted plants and trees and bushes all blooming.  It has a wonderful, comforting feel that makes you want to just sit and daydream.

Dad hasn't moved to his private assisted living facility, HOLLAND PLACE, in Nederland yet.  They are building a wing on the home and it isn't quite finished.  We were hoping to have him moved and settled in before our annual classmates gathering at the end of May.  I don't see that happening, though.  He visits there and also spent a whole day from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm last Saturday while we went to my niece's graduation festivities in the Houston area.  The women there LOVE him.  They think he is nice and “cute”!  I guess that isn't bad for a 98 year old.  That reminds me:  We went to get his handicapped placards renewed today and they have a new date of 2018!  That would be silly if I didn't think Dad had a chance to make it to 102!

My oldest granddaughter is having her piano recital tomorrow night.  The students usually only play one or two songs.  My heart just burst listening to her.  That is how GRANDPARENTS feel.  She is 11 and heading to Middle School next year.  I am not so thrilled about that.

The weight is just dropping off of Murphy since we started eating healthier.  He has lost 30 pounds since we started this endeavor 3 months ago this coming weekend.  He rides his bike 7 miles a day, works in the yard and walks on the elliptical.  I have lost 20.  I haven't ridden my bike since the infamous “bike accident” in February.

Speaking of the bike accident, I am going to Dr. Figari tomorrow for a check up on my shoulder that has a torn rotator cuff.  He said if it still bothered me after 9 weeks since the accident that he would give me a shot of cortisone.  My grown nephew said, “Oh, it is going to hurt for at least 2 days!”  My response was, “Well, it hurts now 7 days a week so, I guess that is better!”
