MAIL CALL

from Joye Jefferson Roll in Friendswood

Marlene Fallin and her hubby are spending the weekend with us at our house in Galveston this weekend. We get together 1-2 times a year down there. Although she's a first cousin I don't get to see her enough. We love to talk about P A and growing up there. It was a good time. Looking forward to the next reunion.

SPREADSHEET UPDATE

I have been updating my class spreadsheet trying to read all the pencil markings on my OLD one.  Everytime I get a change in e-mail, address, phone, etc I write it on my OLD spreadsheet just in case my computer crashes (for good) and I can't retrieve my spreadsheet. You might be getting a text, an e-mail or a phone call from me or one of the committee members to update our information.  Anything you send me on your own will help with this arduous process.  Thanks for being patient with us.

GUEST BOOK (OOPS)

I am very guilty that I haven't checked the GUEST BOOK listed on the front page of our website in the last year!

I forget it is there.  So, I apologize to all who have written there because I like to also put your comments on the Newsletters.  I especially apologize to classmate, Paul Nicholas since I would have notified our fellow classmates of his book signing last summer.

So, for what it's worth, here goes:

God is good. My proposal to spend the day with my peeps and sign copies of my book, "Baby Brother's Window," at the Port Arthur Alumni Picnic (July 16th) on Pleasure Island has been approved! Hope to see my TJ classmates there.

NEWS FROM THE HOME FRONT

My daughter surprised her two girls with a trip to Universal in Orlando.  She gave them some “graduating” gifts on the last day of school that included a letter about going to HARRY POTTER WORLD!  They were so excited.  The girls have never been to Orlando (they are 12 and 14) and have never flown in an airplane, either!  They had a great time and made some fun memories.

Drew is “graduating” from the 6th to the 7th grade at Henderson Middle School and Bailey is “graduating” from middle school to HARDIN JEFFERSON HIGH SCHOOL!  (Tears in my eyes here)!

Mom had her 7th anniversary of her heavenly entry on May 25th.  It would have also been her 95th birthday on D Day, June 6th.  As always, it is a day of reflection and tears.  I miss her every day.

Dad is healing from his two falls.  He is just like the energizer bunny, just keeps going and going, albeit very SLOWLY!

My accountant daughter files taxes for my 101 year old dad.  My 12 year old granddaughter saw them on the bar.  The conversation went as follows:

Drew:  What are those for?

Stacy:  Those are PaPa D's tax returns that I file.

Drew:   He has a job?

Stacy:   No, but he has money for when he worked.

Drew:   Where does he keep his money, in his pockets?

My brother, Louis suffered an aortic aneurysm on May 16 and was hospitalized at Memorial Hermann Heart and Vascular Institute in Houston. He was taken to surgery and the aorta from his heart to about the base of the sternum had to be repaired/replaced, I’m not sure on this detail. Dacron was used in the procedure but I’m also not sure if it was used as a graft or completely replaced the damaged area. The surgery went well and he has been recovering since then. No unexpected complications during surgery. In recovery, he was on a ventilator and receiving dialysis for a number of days. He’s had some problems with fibrillation and his kidneys needed help to regain their function. These issues have lessened and he has continued a slow recovery. It’s my understanding that these problems are not unusual for this surgery and he has fortunately worked through them. As of May 24, he is off the ventilator and receiving 4 hours of dialysis a day. The doctors have said his progress is on target but he may have developed pneumonia. That’s being watched carefully.

Thanks for all of your prayers, they have really helped.

June 6th

My brother, Louis, continues to recover from surgery on May 16 after suffering an aortic aneurysm. He has been moved from Cardiovascular ICU to Cardiovascular Intermediate care. He is no longer on a ventilator or dialysis but is having to use a feeding tube. He can’t talk much because of the feeding tube but is alert and wishes he could talk more and get out of bed. He is helped out of bed to a lounge chair twice a day for an hour or two. This probably is the only physical therapy he will get for a while. Doctors have said his recovery is progressing as expected but it will take time. He continues to have pain in his toes because of poor circulation during the surgery but this is slowly improving. His biggest challenge now is to be patient and work with the physical therapists and others to regain his strength to get back to doing the things he likes to do. Thanks for everyone’s thoughts, well wishes, and prayers as he continues his recovery.

I just wanted to let every one know that after a liver transplant in September, the EBV virus in December and another run of non Hodgkin's lymphoma in January with chemo treatments, after Wednesday's PET scan Ronnie is officially cancer free. There is a spot that they will watch and maintain, but the Good Lord has been so good to us. Thank you all again for all of you prayers and well wishes and your support during this last year. It has been trying and very difficult, but God was with us the whole way. Again, thank everyone so much for being there for us. Thank my Almighty God. Amen

I went to the dr. today and got a splint on my right hand for the brachial plexus neuropathy from my occupational therapist this morning. The hand doctor has diagnosed me with De Quarvain's Tendonosis on my left hand. Now I have splints on BOTH hands. Pray for Ray as I'm not able to do much of anything. I'm hoping the cortisone shot in left wrist and the splint will heal this to avoid surgery!

May 29

Ray and I had such a nice day. We had lunch with wonderful neighbors and small naps. It was down hill after that. I was in the back half bath and turned around too quick and spent most of the night in the emergency room. On my same injured right arm, I broke two bones at/above my wrist. I told the Dr. it hurt worse than natural childbirth! I hope I can get in with my bone dr. early. I guess that sets therapy back a bit. Please keep me in your thoughts, hoping pain will lessen!

May 31

I met with the doctor Tuesday. The nurses took the temporary cast off that I got in the ER. I felt extreme pain like no other. A new cast was put on.  I will see the  doctor again next Tuesday. He wants another x-ray. If it is still holding bones correctly, I will wear a cast for 6 weeks. If the bones are not healing correctly, I will need surgery to put pins in. I always thought I was too mean to have pain (LOL) I've got the sling as far as it will go....pain still unbearable. I appreciate your many kind words....they truly give me a lift!

On June 18th, let us remember the following classmates who will spend their first Father's Day without their fathers who have gone to heaven to be with their other departed loved ones:

Sherry Clingan Armentor, Adela Cantu Martinez and Joyce Marceaux Abate.

In looking over the Newsletters in the ARCHIVE since last June, I noticed that the family deaths I have reported have changed a lot.  It used to be our parents that had passed away and I am NOW writing about our classmates' siblings, children and even grandchildren that have departed!  How our lives are being impacted with this.  Prayers for all.
