This new time
change is killing me. The dog is confused, I'm sleepy too early, Murphy
gets to bed at 7:00~ I know. Gripe, gripe, gripe. So, let's
hear from classmates.

All the children are grown. One is married, one engaged, and one "who
knows?" All have jobs! I'm retired, but with 200 acres it
doesn't feel like it.
(The following
is a note from Fred McCarty TO
John Cooke. The reunion
committee has been "looking" for John for YEARS
!)
Hi John,
I am glad that we have "found" you. We are still looking for
about 60+ of our TJHS 1968 classmates.
Our website is
www.tjhs1968.com
It is updated twice per month but lately not very much news has been passed
along for Linda's NEWSLETTER. I think you will really enjoy viewing the
website and getting caught up on what current and former friends have been
doing. Sadly, about 70 of our deceased, (that we know of). You will
also find an e-mail address listing on the website for many of our classmates.
I want to encourage you to contact Linda to provide an update
on yourself, where you are located and what you have been doing since leaving
TJ. We had a great 40th reunion in August, 2008, and you will find a
number of photos from the reunion, plus a lot of older photos on the website.
Regards,
Fred McCarty
(I haven't
heard from John as of yet, but feel free to contact him at

We love finding our lost sheep)
from Cherlyn Hebert in Houston
Just wanted to give everyone a recap of my recent vacation to Athens and the Greek Isles. I went with
my very good friend from Dallas and a former co-worker and her husband.
We really had a great time, but I was disappointed to see what an ugly city
Athens is.
The Acropolis, of course, was amazing, as were all the other ruins we got to
visit. But, unlike cities like Budapest and Prague, where the tourist areas have beautiful
architecture, there's just nothing pretty about Athens. At least, the parts that we saw.
Grafitti was everywhere, very sad.
We had a couple of rainy days in
Athens before
the cruise started, but we got to do almost all the touristy things that were on
our list. Once we got on the ship, though, we had just spectacular
weather. The only down-side to the cruise was that the intinerary was a
little ambitious; some days we visited two islands, so obviously that didn't
leave a lot of time on either of them. My biggest disappointment was that
we only had 3 hours on Santorini, which is a beautiful island. When you
see pictures of
Greece, you probably will see a white
church with a blue domed roof; that's Santorini.
My biggest mistake of the whole trip was deciding to walk down the hill on
Santorini instead of riding the tram down to the cruise ship. The lines to
the tram were so long and I thought, "It's downhill. How bad can it be?"
Well, I found out, that's for sure. I found out that there were 566 steps
down to the docking area. Very wide steps that I had to take six steps on
EACH! I also found out that most of the way down was unlit, and you had to
dodge the "gifts" the mules left behind! All in all, not my best decision.
Now, I'm home until March when I travel to both
Israel and the
Caribbean. That will be a busy month for
sure.

SAVANNAH
"GIRLCATION"
I spent 5 stress-free days in Savannah, GA recently. It was only 14 women.
We stayed in the historical district. The vacation was planned so that
maybe once a day we had a certain place to meet for a show, tour, or restaurant,
etc. The rest of the day was on your own. It was heaven. I'm
not a shopper, (Murphy is thankful), so I just enjoyed the historical sites and
museums. I almost cancelled due to Mom's fragile health but decided that I
might not get to do this again for awhile. Of course, 5 days go quickly
and it was back to reality!

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY
My parents "celebrated" their 69th anniversary on November 3, 2009. Dad is
93 and Mom is 87. Dementia is Dad's problem. Mom has
many health problems and still
tries to do for Dad. I have been going about 5 days a week and driving
them on errands, cooking for them, and doing light house cleaning. Mom's
heart condition is critical and I wonder each time the phone rings if it is
about her. The problem is Dad doesn't know
how to dial the phone. Please
pray for them. I thank God that Dennis
O'Quinn's parents live next door to them in their apartment complex
in Groves. They have been special friends
since my mom went to school with Mrs. O'Quinn in the 1930's!

NY YANKEES
Okay, I know that a lot of people feel that the NY Yankee owners "pay" for their
championships but there are a lot of other athletes on professional teams that
sure don't EARN their pay, that's for sure. I have been a YANKEE fan since
I was 5 or 6 years old (maybe younger). I would sit up and watch the
Yankees play on our black and white television as often as they were broadcast.
MICKEY
MANTLE,
#7,
was my hero then and still is.
I have a few collectible items about him and some of his fetes. Don't get
me started on how many I
LOST in the flood of '08!
Actually, the first thing I ALWAYS pack for hurricane evacuations is my
Mickey Mantle autographed baseball. I actually talked to
him on QVC on May 2nd, 1991. I lost the video recording of it in the flood~!
Mickey died in 1995. I am the baseball fan in the family.
Murphy likes to watch games some, but I LOVE watching games. My home
office has many of my baseball collectibles that were saved because I had
some of them in a storage unit
because of space restaints when my parents moved in with us in BC.
Otherwise, ALL would be gone. Maybe some of you are also a Yankee fan.
Let me hear from you.

SUPPORT
NEEDED
from Arleen Lang Hulin
I had a kidney transplant seven years ago. The transplant is doing well,
but because of other health issues, the two native kidneys, (which are not
removed at the time of the transplant), were removed on Monday, Oct. 36 at St.
Luke's hospital in Houston. I came home
on Sunday, November 1. I feel like I have been hit by a truck but hope to
be feeling much better in the next few days. I will write more later.
I will probably be off of work until December 7. As always, I would dearly
appreciate all prayers.

from Janice Hebert Boudreaux about
classmate husband Barry Boudreaux
Just wanted everyone to know what has been happening with Barry over the last
few weeks. He went to a heart screening that was offered at work for those
over 50. His report showed problems. We have known since 2001 that
he had an extra heartbeat. Well, the reports on this test showed that his
extra heartbeat were causing his heart to pump below normal. The
specialist we went to said that your heart has an SA node and AV node. The
SA node (takes care of the top of the heart's pumping) and the AV node (the
bottom part of the heart) was causing Barry to have two heartbeats instead of
the normal one heartbeat. The procedure to correct this was done but the
doctor was only able to kill 4 cells that were firing but the 5th one was too
close to the AV node and was not able to be corrected. He is now on
medication to try to help this condition.
We were supposed to leave for Las Vegas this week but I
didn't feel safe with Barry just starting new medication. So, we will
spend the week going to doctor's appointments instead. We were looking
forward to retirement, but we will keep praying together that everything will
work out. Barry would like to continue to work for 3 or 4 more years but
we will see how this condition affects him.
Classmates, (and our BEST FRIENDS),
Bart Darby and wife Laura Meece
Darby have been our crutch and we have had to lean on each other
these past few weeks even harder than usual. I am so glad that we live
near each other in Kingwood. These last few weeks, for both our families,
have been very stressful. Friends are precious.
UPDATE
Barry is feeling well and is taking it easy but the medication is not stopping
the extra heartbeats. They did an EKG on two consecutive days and the
PVC's are still there. He will stay on the medication two more weeks and
then they will see if he has to change to another kind. He is scheduled to have
a stress test on Nov. 12. Please pray for us and for us to have strength
as we deal with this health condition.

( I am so
sad to hear about all of our classmate health problems! Barry and I go
back a long way, (actually we were incubator mates at St. Mary's Hospital), and
I have known Janice since about 3 years old. Prayers are going to
all
the classmates that need some extra love and support. Keep me posted on
any of our dear classmates...PLEASE!)

CONDOLENCES
Thank heavens that I haven't read about or been contacted about any deaths of
classmates or family members. PLEASE keep me posted. Everyone can
use some comfort at these sad times. Especially from old friends.

Well, as I listen to Christmas music on my television cable music channel, I am
in a melancoly mood. I love Christmas carols, the gaiety around the
season, smells, food, and gatherings. Pray for all and especially the
families that will not have their loved ones due to the FT. HOOD casualty and others that have family
members fighting for our freedom. Don't forget
VETERAN'S DAY on Wednesday, November
11th. Thank a veteran.
