I'm back!  Boston was awesome.  Now, I need to go back to see it with Murphy and do the next dozen things I couldn't find time to do on this trip.

MAIL CALL

from Rodney Gouthier in Port Neches
You guys are doing a great job with the website.  Thanks.

from Pat Liles White '66
We went to a dinner/play at the Beau Reve (that is the big white house on Sara Jane Rd).

As usual, it was a very good meal and the play that was put on by the PA Little Theatre was very good.  The food is excellent.

Well, yesterday we began readying for TS Matthew.  So far, just a little rain.  We are keeping our fingers crossed that this will just be a little wind and rain and not anything horrible.  I made a Southwest Soup with cornbread, the flashlights have fresh batteries, lantern is full of oil, everything is put away.....Keep your fingers crossed.
Sept. 25

Well, we only got a little rain and a little wind from TS Matthew.  We prepared for a hurricane and thankfully it was nothing to worry about.  We did need the rain and were glad to get it.  Cleaning the porches, putting things back in place and enjoying the sunshine today.  Thanks for all of the prayers and well wishes.

from Darrell Richerson in Port Arthur
My wife treated me to a Tom Petty concert at the Woodlands for my birthday.  The musicians from the 60's and 70's can still bring it.  Love the website.

from Linda Yancey in Nederland
My niece, Wendie Yancey Ruffner, has written a children's book:  Wolly Willie's New Day (Tadpole Press ....4 Kids).  She has her 2nd book coming out for Christmas.

from Willis "Billy" Fowler in Gladewater, TX
Thank you for all the work on the website.  I check it regularly and enjoy it, but I'm afraid I don't have much to contribute.

from Diane Barker Foreman in Groves
You two do such a great job on the website.  I really look forward to seeing each new update.

from Cherlyn Hebert in Houston
Wow, what a week we had in the Carribbean.  Our chartered flight (180 travel agents) left Houston at 7 AM on Thursday, Oct. 7 and flew first to an island in the Bahamas called Great Exuma; toured the Sandals property and had lunch there; then boarded the plane again and flew to the Beaches resort on Turks and Caicos, where we spent two nights.  We left there Saturday morning and flew to the Sandals property on Nassau.  The water and beach at all three places are breathtaking, as many of you surely already know.  I got back home to the news that my brother's wife, Joyce, had died of complications from diabetes.  She was only one month older than me and would have 61 in November.  She was cremated and we will spread the ashes in Louisiana

I went ahead with my plans to go to Dallas to go the State Fair, which I haven't been to in probably 30 years.  It was a blast.  I ate fried this, fried that.  My favorite was the fried Snickers.

from Carolyn Hebert '58 (wife of biology teacher Alfred Hebert)
Alfred cross trains now.  We work out twice a week at the fitness center.  He does his triathlon training on other days and I ride the recumbant bike at home.  I've been losing weight...40 pounds so far and still losing.  We are enjoying Flint, Texas.  We are taking vacations along with the trips to the triathlons.  We've been to Branson twice and have a third trip planned along with two vacations coming up before this year is out.  I'm busy doing the geneology of my famililes and Alfred's families. My Goodrich Patriarch 15 generation Pedigree will be posted soon on the World Patriarch Pedigree website.  Goodrich was my great and great, great grandmother's family tree on the paternal side.  I've traced the Native American bloodline, too.  My great, great grandmother was a half breed NA and her father was full-blooded.  She claimed Cherokee but I am thinking she was wrong.  there was another tribe in that area of Louisiana during the centry her family had to take on an European name.  It's been a real history lesson for both of us.  The exile from Nantes and the great deportation from Acadia...had relatives in both.

from Gloria Faye Burks Scott in Bryan/College Station
I love the website.  What a wonderful tool to keep informed about our classmates.  It really helps me keep track of those that I used to spend so much of my day with in my teen years and some of the time beyond those years.

BUCKET LIST

from Cherlyn Hebert
Well, off the top of my head, I'd make two.

A travel list: Australia/New Zealand, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, Holland, Belgium

An action list: Snorkeling, swimming with dolphins, and ziplining.

(I probably should include something of a more noble nature like curing cancer or bringing peace to the Middle East, but just keeping it real.)

from Linda DeCuir McFadden
(check) Boston!!!

THANKS FOR TURNING IN YOUR LIST.  I HOPE TO HEAR FROM OTHER CLASSMATES WITH THEIR LISTS (including some you have checked off, also.).

NEWS FROM THE HOMEFRONT

The 5 day trip to Boston was really too short.  We lucked out and got to tour Fenway Park (the home of the Boston Red Sox).  Murphy and I have really been following the Sox this year because of a local 26 year old from Lumberton that is one of the ace pitchers.  His name is Clay Buchholz and he had a superb year!  I went on a fall folliage bus tour, seacoast tour which included the states of New Hampshire and Maine.  I saw lots of historical places but still need to go back to see Harvard campus, JFK Presidential Library, do the freedom trail, and also I want to do Martha's Vineyard and Cape Cod.  On a bad note, I did "something" to my GOOD knee while trying to get out of those stupid seats on the plane to get into the aisle.  I'll just wait until it is unbearable to check it out.  Don't have time for nonsence at this point!

My youngest granddaughter, Drew, is turning 6 this week.  Yikes.  I only have two grandchildren.  Not fair.  Where does the time go?  My mom passed away 5 months ago this week.  Dad doesn't say much about her when I mention anything.  Don't know if it is the dementia that keeps him from talking about her much or if it is just easier on his heart.

SUPPORT

(a note from Cherlyn Hebert about classmate Linda Smith Webber)

I went to Mesquite to visit Linda and her husband, Wayne Webber.  Linda had another surgery on Thursday, Oct. 7th.  This was on her face to try to get her right eye to close better and also to try to improve the droop on the right side.  These are all remnants of the brain tumor she had removed almost two years ago.

My appointment at MDA went well.  I have a low grade B lymphoma.  I will have to take 4-6 treatments.  One treatment every 28 days.  I will probably be able to take the treatments in Beaumont and go to MDA for all testing.  I could not go through this without each and every one of you by my side.  I know that god is listening to all of your prayers and he has taken care of this.

Bart's parents are in need of prayers.  His mother is battling ovarian cancer and the treatments and other health issues are making her very ill.  His dad had a shunt put in his head to drain off fluid.  He was discovered to have Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus.  He is doing somewhat better but is in a wheelchair and doing PT.  He is looking a little better and his speech is so much better.

(a note from Jan Russell)

My cousin, Johnny Russell (TJ '69), was killed in an automobile accident on Sept. 22.  It happened near Beaumont.  He was coming home from work, and his car crashed into a tree.  Witnesses said the car had been weaving from lane to lane.  We think he may have fallen asleep at the wheel.  He was not married and did not have any children.  He is survived by his father, (my uncle), Louis Terrell Russell.  Please keep the family in your prayers.

(a note from Laura Meece Darby about the death of her brother, Tim, age 57)

My brother was on his way home for lunch when he suffered what we think was a heart attack.  Witnesses say that his car was stopped at a stop sign and then slowly veered toward a parked car and hit it.  He was living with my mom who is very ill.
