Kenny Bragg, elected Majority Leader of the Arkansas Legislature

I retired from Resource Management Service at the end of 2014. It has given me more time to devote to the Arkansas Legislature. In the last session I was honored to be elected Majority Leader. That turned into an almost full time job. I was in Little Rock several days a week between the sessions. I am in my third term and this session I am serving as an Assistant Speaker Pro Tempore. This has added some new responsibilities in managing the legislative session. There are four of us and we are basically an extension of the Speaker of the House. I am able to fill in for him in managing the floor proceedings during the session. He also delegates a lot of meetings with lobbyists and legislators concerning pending legislation. I have really enjoyed the position. It gives one more insight into the legislative process. We hope to conclude our general session by the end of March so maybe I can have a little more free time. I serve on the Agriculture, Forestry, and Economic Development Committee, the Revenue and Tax Committee, the Joint Energy Committee, and the Legislative Council. The Legislative Council has about four sub-committees I will be on. We will meet fo rone week every month to take care of issues in the interim between sessions. That keeps me pretty busy. I am thoroughly enjoying the experience and am just taking it one two-year term at a time. At the present time we have a 16 year term limit but I won't make it that long.
