TJ Class of '68     NEWSLETTER                                                           03/13/10

Well, I am spending this gorgeous Saturday morning typing on this NEWSLETTER while Murphy is outside mowing the weeds....I mean grass!  I do love the smell of freshly mowed grass especially when I am on a riding lawn mower compared to walking behind one!

I just came back from my vacation to Mississippi to see my youngest daughter and my granddaughters.  I brought my grandchildren from Texas to see their cousins.  We had a wonderful time.  I have four grandchildren.  My oldest grandchild, Brenden (12) and his sister, Brooke (10) live in Nederland.  My Mississippi grandchildren are Kendyl (4) and Austyn (1).  We had a wonderful time together.  My daughter lives in a family home on 300 acres with a pond.   We are really looking forward to going back.  We plan to get back together in Destin this summer.

Just returned from Nicaragua.  We participated in a training session for Central American reps of our ministry.  It was great to put a face with these guys I have contact with regularly by e-mail who are excited about training leaders in their countries.  It was good to travel with my husband in ministry on this trip.

I thought everyone would be interested in the progress going on at the beach.  My husband and I went to the beach recently to eat.  A little over a mile from the turn-off onto the beach road they are building a cabin on the beachside.  We were surprised to see a cabin being built there.  There are a lot of other buildings being built there.  There are still some places that haven't been touched, a few still have blue tarps, some haven't been touched and there are still Fema trailers there, also.  There are very few places to eat but the Stingaree is still there.

About progress in Bridge City.  Many of the businesses are back and rebuilt and remodeled on Texas Ave. in this once devastated town.  We haven't looked on the side streets at the residences since the clean-up after the storm so we don't know how that is going.

I just got through reading the updated website from Feb. 26th.  I appreciate the work that you and Mike do to keep Bob's classmates up on the news.  There are many times that I want to share things with Bob.  He helped raise my daughter, Kara, and would be so proud of the woman she has become and also proud of her beautiful family. Click here for photos of Bob's great niece and great nephew.

Concerning taking care of elderly parents, I completely understand the difficulty of coping with the many changes that your parents are experiencing.  Quality of life means so much.  You want their senior years to hold as many happy memories as your childhood does.

NEWS FROM THE HOME FRONT
Mom seems to be getting her strength back a little more each day.  She certainly has her good days and bad days but better days seem to be more often.  I hope that the spring weather will allow her to want to get out more since she is so cold-natured.  Her next door apartment neighbors, Dennis O'Quinn's parents, are not so lucky in the health department lately.  Mr. O'Quinn got up during the night and fell and broke his hip.  He had successful surgery and is on his way to a good recovery.  We seem to be going to a lot of funerals lately for my parents' friends.  Mom made the comment, “All of my friends are dying.  Hardly anyone left.”  I told her that she was one of the lucky ones and she came back with, “Well, some days I wish I wasn't this lucky.”  So, I told her that I would throw away all her RX I put together for her everyday and cancel all the doctors' appointments and that should solve that!!  She gave me one of those looks.  Ya'll know the look!!!

MISCELLANEOUS
Hal Ross'
daughter threw him a surprise 60th birthday party at Larry's Saturday, March 6th.  She sent me an invitation to send out to classmates at the last minute and I got messages back saying that many of you couldn't attend due to other commitments.    I hope it was good, though.

Dennis O'Quinn hung it up at C.P. Chem and decided to retire.  I think now he will be spending many days fishing at Toledo Bend.  Congratulations to you friend.

Janice Hebert Boudreaux's grandmother passed away recently.  She was 101.  What memories the kids, grandkids, and greats must have had with her for that many years.  My sympathies go out to you and your family.

Mike and I are now on SKYPE.  We can now talk “face to face” and it is FREE!  I got to see his beautiful wife, Meredith, today for the first time.  I also got to see their dog.  Technology! I am soooo behind.

That is about it for now.  I appreciate those that sent in photos and items to include on our website.  Remember that Mike and I update the website every two weeks.  It is easier to just send us something as soon as you check us out so that you don't forget to do it later.
