from Camille Messina Hudson in Lake Jackson
(taken off of Face Book)
I am having a summer vacation weekend with three grandchildren. Townsen and Culberson are coming in from Austin and Lacey is from Pearland.  All are almost the same age-4 & 5.  It is going to be a circus.  What fun!

from Elizabeth Hall in Lubbock
Some of you may remember that my father's family, the Halls, had 11 boys, (one being my dad), and 5 girls.  That's why there were so many Halls at TJ over the years.  We had a Hall family reunion over the 4th of July at my sister's (Dot Hall Bell) home in Nederland.  About 120 relatives showed up.  Most of them were cousins and their spouses and children.  There are 4 remaining siblings from the original 16.  My mother is 93 and we were happy that she could be part of the fun.  It was really great to see all of them and a very large party.

My husband and I just returned from going on an Alaskan cruise.  It was great!  We went fly fishing and also on a zip line. It's a great trip.  We had a blast.  You will love your adventure.

from Nancy Decker Primeaux in Kerrville, TX
I really enjoy checking the website updates and NEWSLETTERS.  I just love reading about everyone.  I noticed that you are going on an Alaskan cruise in August.  Well, so are we!  We will be leaving on Aug. 20th.  I was just curious.....could it be?

(Sorry, we are returning the day before you leave.  That would have been awesome to have been on the same cruise.)

from Mike Soileau in Atlanta, TX
I have been on vacation to Alaska for the last month.  I drove 4,000 miles in 4 weeks.  I took my van and slept in it.  I did it the 'poor boy' way.  I fished, camped, and drove all over.  Wow.  The Fairbanks midnight sun....awesome.  Anchorage cooks inlet was something to see.  Seward had great fishing and a terrific sea port.  Homer was the most beautiful of all.  Wow....it was something.  Mt. McKenzie...no words could do it justice.  The Al Can Highway is almost all paved now, so don't be afraid to drive it but be prepared to pay up to $7.00 per gallon in a few places.  Other places were around $3.75 or so.  If anyone plans to go on a drive, make sure you bring your camera and fishing rod and go through South Dakota on your way up or back.  It is something to see.  Make sure you go between June and August.  This was a trip of a lifetime.  I don't know if I will ever make it back but glad I went.  What an adventure.

from Rachel Burton Wheeler in West Texas somewhere "-)
I have been at the ranch since last summer and haven't made much headway on fixing our flooded home in Bridge City.  We got about 4 1/2 feet of water and mud from Ike and it was pretty depressing and overwhelming.  Thankfully, our upstairs was spared and we didn't have the whole house to deal with.   Actually, we were living in what was my parent's house....ours was totaled and is gutted.  Thanks for keeping us up on our classmates and the news.

FACEBOOK

I have "friended" 80 of you on Face Book.  When I notice a new classmate entry, then I send a "suggestion" to you so that you can also "friend" them.  I will not send you anyone that is not a classmate.  I have received e-mail messages wondering who the person is that I am suggesting to you.  Here is one of the problems.  Not all of the classmates on FB are entered with their maiden name added.  So, you might not recognize their married name or photo.  Also, some of the classmates are only listed by their husband's or wife's name.  If that is the case, I haven't sent their name to you since it would be equally confusing.  I will list the names for you so that you can go to FB and "friend" some that you might not have recognized the first time I sent them to you.  Also, if you need to know how to add your maiden name, contact me and I will send you the steps to change it.

NEWS FROM THE HOMEFRONT

Dad continues to do well since Mom's death on May 25th.  I did have a scare this week, though.  He was outside sitting in the shade but obviously got overheated with this high heat index.  He was completely out of it, not responding.  Of course, I panicked.  This was just a little too soon after finding Mom dead in her bed.  Well, I called 911 and by the time they came, he was doing somewhat better.  I insisted he go to the emergency room in Beaumont to have everything checked out.  He is fine.  They felt like he just overheated and was somewhat dehydrated.  Scary!

Murphy and I are looking forward to our 10 day Alaskan adventure coming up in August.  Wish us luck that all goes well so that my dad will be able to stay at my sister's and the sitters for the time we will be away!  Keep us in your prayers.

MOMO'S Restaurant

This is the restaurant in Port Arthur and Groves that has the same cook from Monceaux's and uses the same menu.  Tell us if you try it and what you decide.  The sign outside says, "Food from the 70's".

 BRILLIANT HOUSEHOLD TIP

(contributed by Ernie Castaneda Bullion)
Always keep several get-well cards on the mantel....so if unexpected guests arrive, they think you've been sick and unable to clean!!

(Well, I guess I wore my Sympathy cards out doing the same thing.  I think it is about time I packed them up.)
